Welcome, Megan, to the team!
I’m excited to introduce myself as a Clinical Intern here at Grey Matter Counseling & Consulting! My name is Megan Martin, and I am a graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at McDaniel College. I am a strong advocate for mental health, and I am grateful to begin my journey as a counselor here at Grey Matter. As I begin this new chapter, I’m also excited to continue sharing mental health resources and insights with you through the Grey Matter blog, taking over from Liz!
My interest in the mental health field began when I myself started my counseling journey as a client at 15-years-old. My own experiences allowed me to see firsthand just how valuable counseling can be in providing support and guidance through life’s many challenges and transitions. I explored my initial interest further by choosing to take an AP Psychology course my junior year of high school. Around that same time, I lost someone very close to me to suicide. It was from that moment forward that I knew I wanted to be a part of helping support others through their mental health journeys.
At Grey Matter, I hope to work primarily with adolescents and young adults, helping them navigate the challenges that those transitions can bring about. I also hope to work with adults as well, specializing in anxiety and depression, as well as more specifically supporting women through the unique challenges we face.
My approach to therapy is a combination of person-centered and strengths-based. Rather than telling clients what they should do, I hope to hold up a mirror that allows them to recognize the strength, resilience, and wisdom they already possess. I am not here to lead someone’s journey for them; I want to be present alongside them, offering support, understanding, and compassion as they find their own way.
After completing my degree, I plan to pursue full licensure to become a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in both Maryland, as well as Pennsylvania. I also hope to eventually specialize in trauma therapy and pursue certifications in specific trauma modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I am looking forward to meeting new clients and getting the privilege to bear witness to and be a part of each individual’s healing journey. If you are interested in working together, please feel free to schedule a free consultation with me to see if we are a good fit!
