Welcome, Liz, to the team!

I’m excited to introduce myself as a Clinical Intern here at Grey Matter Counseling & Consulting! My name is Liz Petrik, and I am a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling student at Northwestern University. I’m passionate about supporting others on their mental health journeys, and I’m grateful to begin that work here at Grey Matter.

My interest in mental health began during my undergraduate years at Penn State, where I double majored in Psychology and Public Relations. I was always fascinated by the brain and how our experiences shape us. After graduation, I chose to build a career in corporate marketing and communications where I continued to explore human connection and storytelling. Over time, though, I felt increasingly drawn to helping others more directly with their mental health.

With that in mind, I decided to go back to school to pursue a career in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This career transition is also deeply personal. Having been a counseling client myself, I know the courage it takes to reach out for help. Through my own experiences with mental health challenges, I have developed a deep understanding of how isolating those struggles can feel and how powerful compassionate, effective care can be. Counseling was truly life-changing for me, and now I am passionate about helping others experience that same kind of care.

At Grey Matter, I work primarily with adults and adolescents, helping them navigate anxiety, depression, OCD, women’s issues, and career transitions. My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy and collaboration. I aim to create a safe space where you bring your experiences and goals, and together we will explore new ways forward.

After completing my degree, I plan to become a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland and specialize in working with adults and adolescents.

I’m looking forward to meeting new clients and walking alongside you on your counseling journey. If you’re interested in working together, I welcome you to schedule a time for a free consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

Specialties: Anxiety, depression, OCD, women’s issues, career transitions.
