Hello! I’m Emma, and I use she/her pronouns. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at McDaniel College and completing my clinical internship at Grey Matter Counseling & Consulting. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Towson University after completing my Associate’s degree at Harford Community College.

I am particularly interested in working with adolescents and emerging adults. These stages of life can involve figuring out your identity, navigating relationships, managing school and work, coping with family changes, building confidence, and figuring out what you want your life to look like. I want therapy to be a space where clients can talk openly about these things without feeling pressured to have all the answers.

Having been on the other side of therapy as a client, I understand how meaningful it can be to have someone who genuinely listens, helps you process your experiences, and provides a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings. My own experiences have shaped the kind of counselor I want to be, but I also recognize that every person’s story is unique. I am committed to taking the time to understand yours.

One of the most meaningful things I’ve learned through my own growth is the importance of how we talk to ourselves. Learning to recognize my strengths, give myself grace, challenge negative thoughts, and embrace self-acceptance has made a lasting difference in my life. I hope to help others develop that same compassion for themselves, not by ignoring challenges, but by learning how to work through them with greater understanding and self-support.

My approach is person-centered and strengths-based. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness strategies and am also interested in approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. As I continue my clinical training, I look forward to expanding my knowledge and finding approaches that best fit each client. I want therapy to be a place where we can pause, breathe, process what is happening, and then figure out what comes next. My goal is to help clients develop practical tools for everyday life while building a healthier relationship with themselves and the people around them.

I also believe therapy should make room for the good parts of life. It can be easy to focus so much on what needs to change that we overlook our strengths, relationships, and the things that bring us joy. Learning to care for yourself, enjoy your life, and feel comfortable in your own skin is just as important as working through the difficult parts.

I am a Maryland native who grew up in the local community, so I take great pleasure in working with people in the area I have always considered home. When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy spending time with my two cats, family, friends, and my partner. My interests include reading, watching horror movies, playing board games and puzzles, as well as video games, and trying new recipes. I believe that having activities in your life that make you laugh, help you feel connected, and allow you to genuinely enjoy your time is an essential part of self-care.

As a counselor-in-training, I am continually developing my own therapeutic style. I value authenticity, ongoing learning, and creating an environment where clients feel safe, respected, and understood. Finding the right therapist is important, and I encourage you to find someone with whom you feel comfortable being yourself. If you’re interested in working together, I would love the opportunity to meet you and see if we are a good fit!
