Meet Edward: Guided by Purpose, Grounded in Human Connection
Edward’s path to becoming a therapist is anything but linear - and that’s part of what makes his work so meaningful. Before entering the mental health counseling field, he built a career in marketing, business development, management consulting, and strategic advising. About seven years ago, he took a leap of faith to follow what felt like a true vocational calling. “If I was going to spend eight to 12 hours a day working, then it would have to be toward something that felt fundamentally worthwhile.”
Therapy became the answer. “Therapy is both an art and a science, while also neither an art nor a science,” he shares. “That is as fascinating to me as it is motivating and humbling.”
The transition wasn’t easy. “I had to start from scratch,” he explains, with no prior clinical experience to lean on. As he grew into the field and eventually established his own private practice, he found ways to bring his business background, life experience, and entrepreneurial thinking into his clinical work. That unique blend is ultimately what led him to join Grey Matter.
His Approach With Clients
Edward describes his clinical approach and style as interpersonal and interactive, emphasizing human connection as much as any intervention. Since he primarily works through telehealth, he hopes clients feel seen and heard from the very first session, even if through a screen.
What He Finds Most Rewarding
Progress is meaningful in therapy, but Edward says there’s something uniquely powerful about a client expressing appreciation for their work together. “Even the slightest gesture of appreciation for the work we’re doing gives me chills.”
Who He Works With
Edward primarily supports high-functioning, high-achieving adult professionals who view seeking help as a strength, not a source of shame. His focus areas include:
Major life changes and transitions
Mood disorders
Sex and sexuality
Integrative across specialty areas
Trauma-informed care within all work
If Edward were to summarize his guiding philosophy, he puts it simply: “Life is about minimizing regrets and maximizing integrity.”
“We can’t take our possessions or even our memories with us, but our integrity stays with us until the very end,” he says. “That’s what truly matters.”
